Employee Benefits Live 2019 was our first exhibition as a business and we didn’t know quite what to expect. A few weeks have passed since the event and I have had a chance to reflect on our experience as first time Exhibitors.

My over-riding feeling is that it was a great experience to meet a number of employers, with the opportunity to discuss our proposition and approach to financial well being. We see financial well being as an important part of an overall well being programme, together with mental and physical health. These three elements are closely related, each individual element can affect the others.  More enlightened employers recognise this and have an overall, holistic approach to their employees well being. Others are at an earlier discovery stage, particularly in the area of financial well being.

Secondly, I did sense a growing awareness that poor financial well being does not only effect less well off employees. Many higher paid, more senior employees are equally exposed to poor potentially financial well being, it just tends to affect them in different ways.

Thirdly, some employers have introduced financial education as part of a financial well being programme and stopped there. This is fine as far as it goes but it can, and does leave employees seeking answers and solutions to issues raised. Education is great, but education without action is not much better than no education at all.

Fourthly, the term Financial Advice is not always well understood, with many employers thinking it’s only for the well off or those with complicated needs.

Finally, Employers and their employees come in all different shapes and sizes, just like any other customer. But all too often we tend to think of employers as rational entities rather than emotional people.

At Lowermycharges we believe first and foremost that our service can help with the financial well being of any employee by providing ongoing, financial education, information, support guidance and advice to everybody. We believe in inclusion and a workplace culture that encourages and nurtures financial well being, at all levels. Our service is affordable for all and can be set up as a salary exchange, with tax benefits for employers and employers.
